YEAY to all the 60-70 people who shared your messages and expressed your thoughts to do with ‘Solidarity, Equal Value and Natural Affiliation’ (gemenskap, lika värde och självklar tillhörighet) by weaving during the workshop ’Vävpoesi’ at Kulturnatten at Stenkrossen in Lund the other week. I am so happy that we now have Vävpoesi not only in Swedish and English, but also in Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Lithuanian, Runic as well as Mayan.

Many who weaved were doing it for the first time, which always feels great. It truly warms my textile heart when someone who’s never sat by a loom before sits down and weaves and says ”This is great fun”. It is also so much fun to see that everyone takes part, both girls and boys and men and women. The youngest weavers were around 2 years old (with a bit of help from their daddies and mummies) and the oldest were, well a lot older 🙂

And yet again I was truly moved by the positive reception I got from so many of you concerning the concept and idea of Vävpoesi – THANKS!

What a great night it was! – with lots and lots of culture. And together, we created another substantial bit of Vävpoesi (Poetic Weaving).

My definition of Poetic weaving (Vävpoesi) in Swedish:

Vävpoesi skapas när ord vävs in i textilier. Begreppet ”Vävpoesi” föddes ur tankar jag hade om att förena olika personers funderingar och ord, för att skapa en gemensam, stark sammanvävd röst. Där texten skaldas genom utdrag ifrån allas individuella röster. Där uttrycket inte styrs av en specifik person, utan skapas kollektivt allteftersom det textila verket växer.

Skriv ner dina tankar, åsikter och funderingar på remsor av gamla kläder och lakan och väv sedan samman dina ord med andras röster – till ett kollektivt tankeuttryck.
Genom att låta vissa av dina ord löpa över varptrådarna skapas flotteringar där orden blir synliga. Medan de ord på de delar av textremsorna som binds in i varpen blir gömda. Du väljer vilka ord du vill skall tala direkt till betraktaren och vilka som tyst skall viska inne i väven. Tillsammans skapas så den vävpoesi som vi alla kan läsa. Det konstnärliga uttrycket bygger vi på så vis gemensamt, där varje individ som väver bestämmer sin del i helheten.
